Ethereum is transitioning from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake through The Merge, which requires the Bellatrix upgrade on the Beacon Chain first. The proof-of-work chain will then migrate to proof-of-stake when a specific Total Difficulty value is reached, with the Bellatrix upgrade scheduled for epoch 144896.
Ethereum's final testnet merger is announced as Goerli will merge with Prater, retaining the Goerli name post-merge. The Bellatrix upgrade preparing Prater for the merge is scheduled for epoch 112260 at 12:24PM UTC on August 4, 2022.
Ropsten testnet became the first longstanding Ethereum testnet to undergo The Merge transition. A new Ropsten Beacon Chain was launched on May 30, 2022, with the network scheduled to upgrade to merge-compatible protocol rules (Bellatrix) at slot 24000 on June 2, 2022.
