Ethereum is deprecating several testnets including Ropsten, Rinkeby, and Kiln following the network's transition to proof-of-stake. The Gray Glacier upgrade was scheduled for block 15,050,000 in June 2022, with testnet shutdowns planned for Q4 and after mainnet's merge completion.
Kiln testnet is now operational as part of Ethereum's merge testing initiative. The #TestingTheMerge campaign is actively encouraging community participation in testing the transition to proof-of-stake.
